5 yoga asanas for weight loss

We all want to lose that extra kilo or just want to stay fit and yoga is a great way to achieve that. Like any workout you cannot rely on yoga for weight loss you have to consider your diet, lifestyle, and sleep schedule.

Yoga is not just for meditation and mindfulness. It helps you to increase flexibility, strengthen and tone your muscle, increase energy level and metabolism, and stress relief.

 

Here are top yoga poses for weight loss

Boat pose or Navasana

As the name suggests your legs and hand will come in a V shape. It is very important to balance your body and hold the pose for at least 30 secs and increase the time gradually. Repeat this pose 3 times or 4 times.

 

Downward dog or  Adho Mukha Svanasana

This pose is a great way to strengthen your arms, thigh, and back.  As you can see in the picture you need to press down your arms and legs and focus on your back. To make it more difficult keep moving your leg forward and hold the position for 30 to 90 secs. You have to make sure that your heels are touching the floor for them to be effective.

 

Plank pose or Phalakasana

This is a great pose to strengthen your core. It also helps with the toning of your arms and shoulders. you have placed your arm and legs on the floor and lifted your body in a straight line. Make sure you relax your neck and hold the position for 30 sec first and then increase the time to 60 to 90 sec. You should do this 3 times 60 secs each.

 

Chair pose or Utkatasana

This pose will shake your legs and make them sore for the next day. A great pose to tone your thighs, hips, waist, and glutes. You have to get into a chair pose and keep your arms in the air. Refer to the pic below you have to keep your legs parallel to the floor, hips out, and raise your hands upward. You have to stay in this position for 30 sec or more and repeat this 4 times.

 

Sun Salutation or Surya namaskar

Many of you know about this pose and there are so many ways people have done it and every yoga instructor has their own way of doing it and teaching us. You should follow the one that you can do easily and makes you feel stronger after every pose. You should do at least 10 repetitions a day to see effective results.

 

 

These poses will definitely help you in losing weight along with a healthy lifestyle and a good diet. To see any changes in your body you need to practice these poses at least for 20 to 30 days. Make sure you are not injuring yourself and seek help if required. Once you are confident with these poses you can easily do the more difficult poses.
